Veterinary students have the opportunity to complete the required 4-week institute internship or the 10-week internship for students of the laboratory animal science branch.
During the internship, depending on the study progress, insight can be gained into the different tasks of the Core Facility Laboratory Animal Breeding and Husbandry, such as veterinary monitoring of mouse and rat colonies or the performance of assisted reproductive procedures (e.g. IVF and embryo transfer). Additionally, there is the option to complete parts of the internship in cooperation with the Center for Biomedical Research and Translational Surgery to also gain insight into the actual experimental procedures, anesthesia and the veterinary aftercare of sheep, pigs and rabbits.
