The RepRefRed Society was founded in 2016 as an association of researchers of the Medical University of Graz and is engaged in the implementation of the 3Rs principle in preclinical research through the support of the Medical University of Vienna and Innsbruck.
Since 2019, the RepRefRed Society has also been commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research to establish the Austrian 3Rs Center, following the example of other countries, such as the NC3Rs in the UK, to create a national knowledge platform and focal point for 3R-relevant topics, such as the use of animal-free antibodies or improving animal welfare in animal experiments with high severity.
Staff members of the Core Facility Laboratory Animal Breeding and Husbandry are also dedicated to this task within the RepRefRed Society in order to improve animal welfare in preclinical research in Austria.
